Liberian Cargo Ship Sinks Off Kerala Coast with Hazardous Load, Indian Coast Guard Responds
In A Concerning Maritime Incident, A Liberian-flagged Cargo Ship Carrying 13 Hazardous Cargoes Sank Off The Coast Of Kochi, Kerala, On Sunday. According To Updates From The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) And The Ministry Of Defence, The Vessel Went Down In Indian Waters, Prompting Immediate Emergency Action.
All 24 Crew Members Onboard Were Safely Rescued By The ICG And INS Sujata, Which Were Deployed As Part Of The Rapid Response Operation.
While The Cause Of The Sinking Has Not Been Disclosed Yet, Authorities Confirmed That The Vessel Was Transporting 84.44 Metric Tonnes Of Diesel And 367 Metric Tonnes Of Furnace Oil, In Addition To The Hazardous Materials.
The ICG Stated That no Oil Spill Has Been Reported So Far, But pollution Response Protocols Have Been Activated As A Precautionary Measure. Surveillance Aircraft And Response Vessels Remain Deployed In The Area To Monitor The Situation Closely.
