ONGC Announces Major Oil and Gas Discoveries in Mumbai Offshore Basin and KG Land Block
In A Significant Development For India's Energy Sector, The Oil And Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Has Reported new Discoveries Of Oil And Gas Reserves In The Mumbai Offshore Basin. These Reserves Have Been Named Suryamani And Vajramani, And Are Expected To Play A Crucial Role In enhancing Domestic Energy Production In The Near Future.
According To ONGC, These Offshore Reserves Are Part Of A Broader Effort To Reduce India’s Dependence On Energy Imports. Currently, India Imports Over 85% Of Its Oil And Nearly 50% Of Its Natural Gas Needs, Making Domestic Discoveries Critical For Energy Security And Economic Stability.
In Addition To The Mumbai Offshore Discoveries, ONGC Has Also identified A New Oil And Gas Reserve In The Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin, Specifically In An Onshore Land Block, During The January To March 2025 Quarter.
The State-owned Giant's Continued Focus On Exploration And Drilling Is Aligned With India’s Goal To Become More Self-reliant In Energy Production. These Findings Are Expected To boost Crude Output, Create Employment Opportunities, And attract Further Investments Into India's Hydrocarbon Sector.
